Gender Studies

We continually add materials to the Gender Studies Collection. If you would like to donate materials to this collection, please contact Lynne Thomas, the Curator.

Nearly all of our materials for this collection are located in our online catalog. To find out which books the library has in this collection, search for "Gender Studies Collection" including the quote marks under Any Word Anywhere in the online catalog. In addition to collecting general materials related to Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies and Women's Studies, in support of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Studies Certificate and Women's Studies Certificate programs here at NIU, the Gender Studies Collection also serves as the collection of record for the "Stonewall Award," awarded by the American Library Association Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgendered Round Table. In addition, we collect winners of the Lambda Literary Foundation's Award, the "Lammy." We also hold the In All Things Charity Collection which contains materials documenting that organization's work towards inclusiveness in the United Methodist Church, specifically the issue of same-sex marriage.

We also collect GLBT-related periodicals heavily, particularly those related to Midwestern GLBT groups. In addition, we maintain a GLBT related vertical file, for those items that are too ephemeral to warrant individual cataloging, but are important enough to keep.
