University Libraries Southeast Asia Special Collections

The Hart Southeast Asia Collection is located on the 4th floor of the Founders Memorial Library. Included in this major library collection are books, documents, journals, newspapers, pamphlets, and other materials published in, or concerning, the countries of Southeast Asia. Since its establishment in 1964, the collection has acquired scholarly books and other publications in many disciplines, with special emphasis on the social sciences, the humanities, and the arts. Nearly all countries and ethnic groups of Southeast Asia are represented in library holdings.

The collection consists of materials in English, in other Western languages, and also in Thai, Burmese, Indonesian, Malay and other languages of the Southeast Asian region. Areas of special collection strength include the Burma, Thai, Philippine, Indonesian, and Malaysia/Singapore collections. Burma holdings are extensive, and have been strengthened through a large Paul J. Bennett bequest of books and pamphlets in Burmese and Western languages.

Reference assistance is available to Southeast Asia collection users, and a separate (non-circulating) Southeast Asia reference collection is available to assist researchers. Nearly all Southeast Asia Collection books and other cataloged holdings can now be accessed through the library's online catalog and the Internet.
