Friends of the NIU Libraries: The Katherine Walker Library Work Scholar Endowment
The Walker Work Scholar Committee at Northern Illinois University Libraries is pleased to announce that applications may now be submitted for the Katherine Walker Library Work Scholar Award. The purpose of this award is to honor Miss Katherine Walker and pay tribute to her lifelong commitment to the library profession through the provision of actual library work experience for students at NIU who wish to explore careers as professional librarians. While serving NIU from 1942 until her retirement in 1973, Miss Walker assisted in the library's move from Altgeld Hall to Swen Parson and later helped with the planning of its subsequent move to Founders Memorial Library.
Preference will be given to undergraduates. Prospective candidates must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale and an interest in working in the library environment. The award is not an outright scholarship; the purpose is to reward a student working in the library with a substantially higher salary. The winner must work a minimum of 10 to 15 hours per week at the library. The award is for the Fall 2009-Spring 2010 academic year.
To apply, please send together:
