OCLC OFFERS ICCMP FREE YEAR TO COLLECTION ANALYSIS PRODUCT
OCLC has offered the ICCMP consortium a free one year subscription to its new Collection Analysis Product. The new product offers a continually updated analysis which allows for peer group comparisons and goes down to the title level in WorldCat.
The features of the new product are the following:
- Uses records pulled from WorldCat.
- Handles Dewey, LC, and NLM classifications.
- Analyzes division, category and subject levels of content.
- Provides lists of titles within each level through connection with World Cat.
- Provides age, uniqueness and overlap analysis.
- Provides peer group comparisons with the following restrictions:
- Peer library collections are aggregated.
- Comparison libraries must have their holdings in WorldCat.
- The ICCMP group will have about 10 peer groups based on Carnegie Classifications and then size groupings. Spreadsheets for those groupings will be up on the ICCMP website by the end of next week (March 11).
- This is an annual subscription with unlimited use.
- Provides information on publication date, material subjects, languages, formats, and audience level
- Title level information is available through WorldCat.
- Reports can be exported to Excel or other spreadsheet programs.
OCLC also has asked for volunteer libraries to be demos for the new product which comes out at the end of March. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER TO BE A DEMO LIBRARY, PLEASE CONTACT Mary Munroe at mmunroe@niu.edu.
At its membership meeting on March 1, 2005, the ICCMP group agreed that the Illinois group will accept the offer from OCLC and the subscription will begin on July 1, 2005.
Libraries who were not participants in the collection analysis project and who are interested in being participants in the new product may contact Mary Munroe at mmunroe@niu.edu. New libraries will need to pay for access, but OCLC will be offering consortial prices for this year.
What will happen next year? We are hoping to broker a consortial price for libraries who wish to continue subscriptions after the 2006 fiscal year.
More information as it becomes available will be distributed to ICCMP members through e-mail and the consortium’s listserv.
If you have questions or would like more information, please contact Mary Munroe at mmunroe@niu.edu.
