The Plan:
Executive Summary / Need, Importance, Urgency / Purpose & Philosophy
/ General / Future Development / Appendix / Proposal Process

FUTURE DEVELOPMENT

The focus of the current plan is on collaborative collections management, principally because this is the area in most need of consortial attention. Yet collections do not stand in isolation. Document delivery is a key area of the infrastructure that still needs development. It is important to mention here, however, how critical it is that the system be brought to the level of responsiveness needed as the basis for a successful collaborative collections plan. Other related areas such as preservation stand ready for future consortial development after the collaborative collections plan is well established. Cooperative purchasing efforts have already been initiated. An idea of particular interest during the planning retreats was the presentation of symposia within the state on the role of resource sharing in the new system of scholarly communication.
