ICCMP Community,
On behalf of the ICCMP Coordinating Committee, we are writing to inform you that the ICCMP vote on the VLT recommendations is complete. The ballots were reviewed yesterday, and as of March 21, 2005, the deadline for the receipt of the ballots, the vote was 72 in favor of, 5 opposed to, repealing the ICCMP Bylaws to dissolve ICCMP effective June 30, 2005, and to adopt the Bylaws drafted by the Vision and Leadership Transition Team, which establish the governance and operation of the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois, CARLI, on July 1, 2005. Furthermore, that the respective staffs, services, and budgets of ICCMP, IDAL, and ILCSO be merged and transferred to this new organization as described in the Bylaws and other associated documents.
With the dissolution of ICCMP, the membership asks for priority attention from the new CARLI Board of Directors to performance indicators, purchasing cycles, and funding structures, particularly in the brokering of electronic resources.
The full text of the VLT Team recommendations, final report, and associated documents is available at http://www.illinoisvlt.net/.
As the last of the three organizations to complete the vote on this issue, ICCMP joins with IDAL and ILCSO in passing the recommendation to form a new academic and research library consortium in the state of Illinois.
Work will soon begin to formalize the new organization, the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois, CARLI. It is expected that a call for nominations for the CARLI Board will soon be announced. The VLT Team will serve as a nominating committee for the founding CARLI Board and will conduct and organize the elections. The election is expected to be conducted in mid-April. The CARLI Bylaws discuss the new board’s structure. These Bylaws can be found at http://www.illinoisvlt.net/final/Bylaws-Jan05.pdf .
As CARLI begins and evolves, there will be continuity in 2005-2006 for those member institutions that participate in the ICCMP collection grants as well as in the electronic resources brokered by ICCMP.
More information on CARLI will be distributed through electronic mail as well as the consortia’s listservs.
