Welcome to CARLI!
As previously announced, the memberships of ICCMP, IDAL, and ILCSO have
voted and approved motions to dissolve their respective organizations as of
July 1, 2005 and form CARLI, the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries
of Illinois. For the initial year, all libraries that are currently members of
ICCMP, IDAL, and/or ILCSO are automatically considered to be members of CARLI
and are encouraged to participate in the new organization. As noted at the
various presentations over the last few months, the Vision and Leadership
Transition Team (VLT) will act as a Nominating Committee and coordinate an
elections process so that the CARLI Founding Board can start its work on July 1.
This announcement is to initiate the nominations process. You may nominate individuals
between now and April 1, 2005 for the CARLI Board at the following URL:
http://carli.illinois.edu/carli_nom/index.cgi
Please note the following about the nominations and elections process:
- The CARLI Bylaws (see
http://www.illinoisvlt.net/final/Bylaws-Jan05.pdf) call for 12-member Board
composed of three representatives each from the constituencies: Public University,
Private College/University Community College, and At-Large.
- Self-nominations are welcome.
- If you are nominating a colleague, please check with the individual prior
to your nomination to see if he or she is willing to serve.
- The web-based nominations form asks for a brief statement of interest
If you are nominating someone else clearly you cannot submit that individual's
statement but the VLT will contact candidates prior to voting for statements.
- The form asks for you to designate a preference to run as a candidate within
the constituent group or at-large.
- From all those nominated, the VLT will present a list of candidates for
consideration and voting in mid-April.
- The Bylaws call for staggered one-, two-, and three-year terms. As this
is the start-up year, term length will be determined by vote count with the
individual receiving the highest votes serving a three-year, second highest
a two-year, and the third highest a one-year term (withing the constituent
membership groups as listed above.
- Regarding who will vote, the Bylaws state, "Each member of CARLI will
be entitled to one vote on each matter submitted to a vote of the entire membership.
Each member institution will designate a voting representative for CARLI."
Thank you.
