Founders Memorial Library maintains a Security office for the well being of library users and safeguarding the collection. The office is operational during all the open hours of the library. Enforcement and emergencies may be coordinated with the NIU Department of Police and Public Safety.
Security has two full-time workers and 7 to 8 student workers. Security staff regularly circulate through the building and can be identified by a tan-colored shirt or vest with "Library Security" on it. Security staff are approachable and will help with any concerns of safety or security.
Security staff handle, provide and assist with:
Emergency needs
First aid
Lost and found
Harassment issues
Monitoring security gates
Security enforces the following library policies:
Theft, mutilation or destruction of library property
Noise policy
Internet policy
Children in the library policy
Food and beverage policy in the library
Procedures for filming and photographing in the library
Building closings
No smoking policy
